You can talk to God because God listens. Your voice matters in heaven!
On December 30th at FUMC, Tonya Kenner gave everyone a “word for the year”. Actually the words were in a basket and we picked out our own. My word was LISTEN! So it was quite a surprise when on January 1st my daily devotion started with You can talk to God because God listens. Your voice matters in heaven! (Grace for the Moment by Lucado) As I seek to be a better listener in 2019, I also seek to trust that God indeed listens & responds to our prayers. He has certainly responded to your prayers as 2018 was a bountiful year! Thank you for your faithfulness to our children.
We are pleased to have Deneen Petty as our Executive Director as of January 3rd. She brings a wealth of experience with children programming and a contagious enthusiasm that has already brought both order and engagement to our after school hours. Meanwhile Beth Shera has joined our Board and has volunteered to help with grant writing, etc. Several local churches and organizations are offering various services and we have more men than ever to mentor our boys!
ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! We received funding for a NEW BUS from Kosair Charities. It is in the process of being painted with our logo and should be here in February/March! God is good!
Our Christmas Party was a blast with over one hundred children and their families in attendance. Alex Guy (our custodian) was the DJ and the kids really enjoyed showing off all their dance moves! They were in awe of the presents and parents were vey appreciative as the children left with their overflowing bags. Thanks again for your generosity and faithfulness!
We will be writing Thank You notes soon but please remember their memories are short and you may be thanked for something totally different than what you provided. Just know that you made their hearts happy over Christmas Break!
On a sad note, I never thought I’d be including this in my update but one of our most faithful angels has passed to her glory. Sandy Deaton was an original angel when Paula Miller started this program. She was always willing to take on new children and she helped me with the Annual Dinner every year. In fact, she also volunteered with a group from First Presbyterian who did crafts and played games with the children. She was at the KC the Wednesday before break and specifically wanted to see her child! Sandy died unexpectedly on her way to Florida to visit her brother. Her memorial service is tomorrow at 4:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Frankfort. Please pray for her family.
Thank you for listening to the needs of the children and responding with your prayers, cards, gifts, and resources. Kay Scott 502-395-1516
